Take THAT Sandy!

In the high likelihood that I’ll be losing power tomorrow (and thus, internet), I’m posting a rare Sunday night post.  And if I don’t lose power, well, at least this will be one less thing to do in the morning.

Also in the high likelihood that I’ll be boarded up in my house while the angry Sandy uber- winds rage around Boston, I won’t be getting to the gym to lift either.

And yes, I know that all of my readers are not going to be affected by Sandy over the next few days, but even so, you can benefit from this post too!

Just because Sandy is angry and doesn’t want me to go outside, I’m still going to get my sweat on, and you should too. Don’t let a silly Frankenstorm (or whatever they’re calling it now) deter you from your sweat session (unless, of course, you’re actually in danger in your home. In that case, I would recommend that you get out. Fast.)

Here’s my “Take THAT Sandy!” Workout, designed to keep me healthy and strong while the storm rages on.

For Kettlebell Goblet Squat – Watch Here. Go as heavy as you can (or as your equipment allows) on this one!

For Overhead KB Kneel-to-Stand – Watch Here

Pull-Ups – AMRAP (As Many Reps As Possible). Do these assisted or unassisted, your choice. If you don’t have a pull-up bar at home, substitute push-ups.

For Goblet Bulgarian Split Squat – Watch Here

Random Side Notes kind of related to Hurricane Sandy:

– My childhood cat was named Sandy. She was very much loved, crazy as she was, until she disappeared one day. Legend* has it she was taken by a pack of coyotes and still lives among them to this day. Sandy: Queen of the Coyotes

*and by legend, I mean that’s what I believed when I was younger. I may or may not still believe that.

Here I am with Sandy. Yes, she’s wearing a mask (what?). No, this is totally not the reason she ran away was abducted by Coyotes.

– If we do end up housebound for a day or so, I really should spend most of that time studying for my CSCS. In reality though, I’ll probably spend most of that time reading Let’s Pretend This Never Happened, by Jenny Lawson, because it’s funny shit. So funny, in fact, I can’t read it in public, because I really don’t want to be the crazy lady laughing out loud on the train.

And lastly…

– I made sure to stock up on the essentials: peanut butter and bananas. My survival may depend on those two things alone.

Stay Safe everyone! And if you’re not being affected by Hurricane Sandy… do the workout anyway! I’ll be back after we get our power back. And if we don’t lose power, I’ll be back whenever I feel like it.

Happy Hurricane Monday!

  1. Stay safe friend!!! HAHAHAHA your cat is HILARIOUS! That picture is epic 😀
And I love your essentials you stocked up on– I’d be grabbin the nanners and pb too 😉

  2. Stay safe! My school is already cancelled for tomorrow so I will be watching the storm in my pjs!

  3. Stay safe!! DC is getting pounded too and the government is already shut down, snow dayyy!

  4. Great post – and workout ideas! I’m hoping Sandy isn’t TOO mean to DC – though it’s not looking good. My office is still planning on being open as of now (Why? No idea. Everything else is closed), but who knows what will happen between now and then. If the power stays on in my apartment but they decide to do the smart thing and close the office, I may have to take advantage of the stairs or underground shopping area in my building for a workout 🙂 Stay safe!

Great workout. I am in NY, so I have a feeling I will be stuck inside too.

Stay safe Stephanie! I’ll be thinking of you. 🙂 And good call on the bananas and PB… I’m pretty sure bananas and soy nut butter would be the 2 things I would stock up on too!

  7. I thought the same thing – bananas, peanut butter, and beer. Ready to go! Be safe! My office was closed today so I’m stuck on my laptop and in front of the tv crossing my fingers we don’t lose power.

  8. I hope you weathered the storm, thenews reports look awful! Good thinking on the excercise routine!!
