Hello everyone! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend, whether you were watching the Olympics or not! I sure watched a crap-ton of Olympics throughout the weekend, it was as if I was incapable of peeling myself away from the TV, which is not usually the case for me on a beautiful summer weekend. I just couldn’t stop though! Swimming (HELLO Ryan Lochte!), gymnastics, beach volleyball, weight lifting, basketball….You name it, I was probably watching it (and loving every second)!
I may have even cried a few times.
I did get out of the house a little bit though, and that is the point of today’s blog post. Where did I go and what did I do?
I headed up to Amesbury, MA with some great friends of mine to do The Color Run! For those who
have been living under a rock don’t know what The Color Run is, it’s a 5k in which you start off nice and clean, and proceed to get coated in crazy colors throughout the duration of the run. The creators of this run bill it as “The Happiest 5k On The Planet”, and it’s absolutely true. As if it isn’t fun enough having volunteers throw buckets of powdered dye on you while you run, there’s a huge party at the end with more color, music, food, and thousands of happy, colorful people.
Curious? It looked a little something like this:
Here’s all of us clean… The bandanas didn’t stay up for long, I’m pretty sure we all swallowed about a pound of colored powder.
And then there was this…
And all of this… So much color! And so much fun!
It really was the happiest 5k on the planet. There was a DJ pumping us up at the start line, all of the awesome volunteers at the color stations, and then the super fun party at the finish. And the best part? There was no time! This was seriously just a run that was all about getting out there, getting active, and having fun doing it.
And that is something that we can all do, even if you don’t sign up for an event like this! Fitness doesn’t always have to be so serious; events like this are a great reminder of that. Runners of every level could participate comfortably and there was no stress about beating the clock. (And for someone like me who rarely runs over 2 miles, that’s a major plus!).
In fact, my awesome day at The Color Run is the reason why you all aren’t getting a fitness challenge this week. It was a little reminder of something that we all tend to forget, that sometimes it’s best to just let go and have a little fun! Of course I’m not telling you to slack off on your goals this week, but letting yourself have a little fun outside of your normal routine is just plain necessary sometimes.
And you don’t have to douse yourself in colored powder to have fun with your fitness plan, but more power to you if that’s how you decide to spend your week. Just be careful, people tend to look at you a little funny if you walk around in public looking like we do in the pictures above. (Stopping for lunch on the way home was a little awkward for everyone involved).
If you really want a challenge this week though, keep doing those pull-ups! I’ve been doing mine like a fiend, and I already have improvements. I’ve cranked it up though and have been doing 30-40 on most days (mostly assisted, because I’m not that much of a beast…Yet!) How about you?
Have you ever done The Color Run? How do you keep your workouts fun?
